The PADI Instructor Development Course is the professional training programme that prepares you to become a PADI Scuba Instructor. It focuses on developing your teaching ability, dive theory knowledge, instructional skills and confidence so you can lead and teach scuba divers safely and professionally.
This course is ideal if you want to:

To begin the PADI Instructor Development Course, you must typically:
Be at least 18 years old
Hold PADI Divemaster certification or equivalent
Be medically fit to dive and complete the required medical form with Doctor Sign off
Hold current CPR and first aid training (Emergency First Response Instructor or equivalent) - Included with your IDC with Ocean Turtle
Have logged a 100 dives (as required by PADI for the Insuctor Exam) we can start you at 60 dives as we are a PADI 5-star Career Development Centre and have two PADI Course Directors.
The IDC at Ocean Turtle Diving combines independent study and in-centre training:
PADI eLearning: approx. 18–25 hours of independent study
Classroom workshops and dry presentations: approx. 5 days
In-water training and teaching practice: approx. 3 days
Total training time is approximately 8 days, though scheduling may vary.
The course teaches you how to:
Teach scuba skills in a safe, effective and engaging way
Lead and supervise students during confined water and open water sessions
Plan, brief and manage dive activities
Understand and apply PADI standards and the PADI System of Education
Communicate confidently with students and peers in a professional environment
The IDC prepares you for the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), but the IE is conducted separately by a PADI Examiner after your IDC training is complete. Ocean Turtle will support you through the preparation process and we will attend your exam (date and loaction dependent)
Yes. Ocean Turtle offers several IDC training packages to suit different goals, including:

Each package includes a range of training elements and professional development options.
At the instructor level, you are expected to have your own personal scuba equipment. This ensures you are familiar and comfortable with your gear as a professional. Cylinders and weights are provided as part of the course. We can provid gear rental if required.
All professional level PADI courses require a completed PADI medical questionnaire signed by a physician. You can download the PADI Diver Medical form and take it to your doctor for approval.
For UK work purposes, a full HSE dive medical is required by UK Law.
Yes. Divers who are qualified with other agencies (e.g. BSAC, SSI, CMAS) may be able to crossover to PADI. Ocean Turtle Diving’s team will advise on the best pathway based on your current dive credentials. Contact us today.
Once you are a certified PADI Instructor, you can:
Teach a full range of PADI courses
Work as a dive professional anywhere in the world
Continue professional development with specialty instructor courses
Progress further to Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Staff Instuctor
The PADI Instructor application fee is a mandatory fee paid directly to PADI when you apply to become a PADI Instructor. This fee covers both the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), which is run by PADI, and the processing of your instructor certifications.
