The Advanced Open Water Diver course is designed to improve your diving skills and confidence through real dive experiences. You’ll complete five adventure dives, including Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation, alongside Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck and some key Rescue skills, and the all important "Thinking Like a Diver" chapter.
Not at all! Despite the name, the course is suitable for divers who have just completed their Open Water certification and want to gain more experience under instructor supervision.
You must be a certified Open Water Diver (or equivalent) and be at least 12 years old (Junior Advanced Open Water for ages 12–14). There is no number of dives logged requirement.
The course takes 2 days at an Open Water site, normally on a weekend.
After certification, you can dive to a maximum depth of 30 metres.
(For Junior Advanced Open Water Divers aged 12–14, the limit is 21 metres.)
There is no final written exam. You’ll complete short knowledge reviews related to each adventure dive within PADI eLearning.

Many divers go on to complete the PADI Rescue Diver course, which focuses on safety, awareness, and helping other divers.
